Youth Grant Funding

SDYC also works with Gloucestershire County Council (GCC). Through the devolving of dedicated funds by GCC to respective district council’s in which to support youth services, SDYC act as ‘grant givers’ with regards to the Stroud Youth Grant Fund programme.

The current arrangement between the county and district council’s, whereby the latter are allocated the annual budget of £50,000 by GCC, funds are subsequently given to a range of youth projects and communities. This arrangement has seen SDYC and SDC operate the aforementioned youth grant programme since 2011, with a dedicated youth grant fund panel made up of SDYC member’s acting as assessors and decision-makers – the process is supported by SDC’s Senior Youth Officer and their relevant business support team.

Involving young people in grant giving has long been an example of how young people’s voice can be effective, particularly when dedicating funds to youth services.
