Who We Are

Berkeley Vale Youth Forum is one of nine similar youth voice groups that exist across the Stroud district.

The group was officially created in 2012, following a local youth-led consultation which began in late 2011.

Supported by Stroud District Council youth workers, the group of young people from the local community worked hard during the winter months to consult their peers. They subsequently presented their findings to Berkeley Town Council in March 2012. Among various outcomes, the need to create a local youth group that could express the voice of young people in the Berkeley Vale area was identified – coupled with a general desire of young people to be seen as ‘part of the solution and not the problem’, the youth voice of Berkeley and surrounding area had been heard!

The report (Youth Consultation Report – Berkeley) that highlighted these findings, was later influential in the creation of other local youth forum groups across the Stroud district – this development was directed by the first ever youth work strategy of Stroud District Council, which emerged later in 2012.

Today, Berkeley Vale Youth Forum continues to ‘help improve the community’ and strives to represent local young people between 11 and 18 years on the issues that are important to them.

To do this we are constantly looking for the views and opinions of all young people that either live in or regularly visit the communities of: Alkington; Berkeley Town; Ham; Hamfallow; Hinton; Newport; Purton; Sharpness; Stone; and Wanswell.

We are a friendly group, that meet on average every two weeks – If you, or a young person you know, wants to get involved then please get in touch via the contact details below or get involved here.

Alternatively, if you don’t fancy being actively involved, but you’ve got an issue you’d like the group to look at you can have your say here.

We are supported by the youth work team at Stroud District Council.

To influence changes in the community, we work with a number of organisations, including:
