Role of the Youth Councillor
The youth council’s main role is to represent the views of young people aged 11 to 18 who live and / or are educated within the Stroud district, therefore it will be necessary for the youth council and individual Youth Councillors to be able to take part in the following activities in order for the youth council to fulfil its role:
Attend training events;
Attend youth council meetings;
Meet with other young people and listen to their concerns/ issues;
Meet with decision makers and put forward young people’s issues and concerns;
Be involved in decisions made by Stroud District Council that will affect young people within the Stroud district;
Be able to communicate effectively and represent the views of other young people;
Not to discriminate against any particular group or individual;
Work alongside the Stroud District Council Officer(s) appointed to help the youth council fulfil its role;
Attend other relevant meetings.
The role of a Youth Councillor is carried out in a wholly voluntary capacity; members receive no monetary gain in exchange for their active involvement. However, members are not expected to financially provide to cover their role.
